WHO WE ARE

We are qualified tourist guides of Milan with a regular license. Many of us are architects, art historians, archeologists, music and foreign languages experts. We offer our experience to travel agencies, tour operators, public institutions and companies, private and school groups.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We work with passion, determination, enthusiasm, expertise and reliability. Thanks to our cultural education and qualified on-field experience, we all have a goal: be the perfect host and introduce our guests to the more classic sites as well as to the more hidden and evocative corners of the authentic Milan. And we do this in many languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Polish, Japanese, Swedish, Chinese, Serbo-Croatian and more.

OUR HISTORY

2020
2020

TODAY

Our offices are in the heart of Milan, facing the Sforza Castle, where we feel nearer the city’s art and history, and you can easily find and visit us. Wishing to meet our tourists needs, we always update itineraries and activities.

2020

2020

The 37th Lglta World Convention will be in May 2020 in Milan and our guides have attended a training course promoted by the Chamber of Commerce, aiming to develop tailor-made Inclusive Tourism tours dedicated to the Lgbtq+ community.

2017
2017

2017 – 2018

Some of our guides specialized in Religious Tourism through a course promoted by the Higher Institute for Religious Sciences of Milan, so we have recently improved our offer of tailor-made itineraries through different religious sites.

2015
2015

EXPO 2015

2015 has been an exceptional year: over 5.400 services carried out by our tourist guides, thanks to EXPO of course: we were busy doing tours both in the World Fair pavilions in Rho and in the city, at almost every hour of day and night!

Invito A Palazzo (“Invitation to the Palace”)

We guided visitors among the treasures of Palazzo Anguissola Antona Traversi, Palazzo delle Colonne and Ca’ de Sass, for the event “Invito a palazzo” organised by Banca Intesa. And after, the same Bank commissioned us tours for the presentation of frescoes newly restored in Chiaravalle Abbey.

Sustainable Tourism

As Centro Guide Milano, we are involved in social projects also. Our guides attended the training course on Sustainable Tourism organized by the AIAS association and now we can make itineraries for disabled people through the main sites of Milan, already tested with groups of all ages.

The Monumental Cemetery

We collaborated with Milan Municipality and Silvana Editoriale Publishing Company for Sunday guided tours at the Monumental Cemetery, an amazing open-air museum of modern sculptures.

Teaching Activities

The cultural sector of the Milan Province asked the CGM to collaborate for tours on the occasion of three exhibitions “Tiepolo a Milano”, “Milano Déco”, and “Bramante e la sua cerchia”. Our members taught in a course for operators of cultural tourism in Lombardy organised by the European Social Fund.

1990
1990

The Arengario Headquarters

During this decade our headquarters was the Arengario. We could see the Duomo spires from the windows of our office. We also felt
privileged because we were in close contact with the APT, the tourist office of Milan. Shortly after, our headquarters became the
Museo del 900 and we moved a few steps away: in the historic “Cobianchi” space, on the opposite side of Piazza del Duomo.

1980
1980

Milan Municipality

In the 1980s, the CGM collaborated with the Municipality of Milan organizing summer tours through sites in the city for Milanese citizens who were staying in the city for their holidays. In the 1990s these tours became the “Visite d’Arte”, the first cultural tours offer for locals in Milan.

1970
1970

First steps

In this decade the professional figure of the guide did not yet have today’s status and the CGM did not have stable premises and an active secretarial service, but began to weave relationships with institutions and travel agencies.

1960
1960

The very beginning

1960 is the year our activity started. The first association of tourist guides was founded and was later made official in front of a notary. The first members promoted themselves by meeting tourists in strategic spots of the city: the parvis of the Duomo, the Cimitero Monumentale and the Arco della Pace, giving them information on hotels and restaurants also.
